Welcome to the Corporate View pre-speech
exercises. A little advanced
preparation will make answering Corporate View questions much easier for
you.
The terms that appear in bold and italicized
print in your textbook are listed in the ShopTalk Vocabulary lists. You can look up in meaning of these terms
on the corporate Intranet. To find the
ShopTalk definitions, click on the Regular Features link and choose ShopTalk.
Because the average speech recognition
vocabulary is so large, if you enunciate clearly, you shouldn't need to train
too many Corporate View words. Most of
the words you will need to train will appear in Chapters 1 and 2. Because you will use term like TeleView,
SBU, and Intranet, over and over again, it pays to train these words now.
In these exercises we have only listed the words
that have a higher than average probability of error. If you are in a hurry, simply read the words from the lists
provided here. However, if you have a
little more time, read all of the ShopTalk Terms as explained in the
instructions. This will help you
improve your voice profile and increase the probability of accuracy as you
dictate Corporate View answers.

1. Turn
to page 5 of your Corporate View Orientation text. Read each of the ShopTalk terms into your speech recognition
software and train any words that give you trouble. If a term is a proper noun, such as World Wide Web, or an acronym
such as NASDAQ, do not use UPPERCASE or Capital Letters when correcting in your
Correction window. Otherwise, in some speech
programs, the word may appear capitalized whenever you say it in the future.
Here is
a list of the words that gave us difficulty.
You may have achieved a higher level of accuracy than we did. If so, congratulations!
3. Here
are some other important Terms that you will certainly wish to train. These are unique words that do not appear in
a regular speech vocabulary set.
4. You
may also wish to train Corporate View with capital letters, because you'll be
saying it so often. Make sure you train
it as a phrase.

acronyms is an abbreviation or series of capital letters that represents a
recognizable organization or thing. For
example, IBM is the acronym for International Business Machines. Try training these acronyms.

names and federal agencies usually appear correctly as spoken, such as
Underwriters Laboratories Inc. or Federal Communications Commission. However, if they don't appear properly,
train them as phrases. Consumer
Reports is a famous magazine that may need to be trained as a phrase with
initial capital letters. We trained the following words from the list.

Dictating financial terms may take a little more effort. Read the ShopTalk Terms and train any
errors in the Correction window. The
word "capital" may be very tricky for you to say. In many speech recognition software
programs, when you say the word “capital,” it may be interpreted as a command,
and will capitalize the next letter of whatever word you say. However, if you say the word capital in a
sentence, usually the correct word will appear. Here are a few terms that may give you trouble.

legal terms can be a bit tricky. Read

Regulations” as a phrase. Here are the
